El presidente de la Sociedad Española Psiquiatría, Julio Bobes, se muestra a favor del informe que establece las bases de la futura Ley contra el consumo de alcohol en menores, ya que considera que «los jóvenes son malos gestores de su salud», por este motivo entiende que son necesarias medidas de protección, información y formación sanitaria para que «aprendan a gestionar» su estado de salud.

El consumo abusivo de alcohol puede dañar de manera irreversible el desarrollo del cerebro de los menores de 24 años. «El sistema nervioso, las células neuronales no terminan de madurar entre los 22 y 24 años, por tanto es especialmente arriesgado que no se controle las ingesta de alcohol», explica. «Dentro de las intenciones benignas que ha tenido el país en las últimas dos décadas es atajar el daño cerebral en menores», afirma, recordando que se trata de una regulación que lleva años intentando salir adelante. «Esperamos que esta vez sea la vencida», clama.

En su opinión, está Ley ayudará a «prevenir la neurotoxicidad (muerte neuronal precoz), porque neurona que se pierde se pierde para toda la vida». «De momento no tenemos huertas de neuronas, por tanto se trata de que no se vayan empobreciendo las neuronas debido al desconocimiento, y a la banalización que hay del uso y abuso del alcohol y otras drogas», añade.

Y, para conseguirlo, considera que es necesario incluir medidas de prevención y de protección de la salud mental, e «informar de que esto no es una cosa de mayores que no quieren que beban, sino de cómo gestionar mejor su salud en la adolescencia».
